Moms I need help!>....again!

When did your child(ren) stop taking two naps? I don't know whats going on with Carly, but all the sudden she's not going to sleep until being her crib for over an hour and a half!!(She usually takes 30 mins. max, if that to go to sleep!) I know it could be daylight savings, or teething, or who knows what, but I don't know what to do! My precious baby schedule is melting before my eyes!! AGHH!! It's just killing us all because Carly is such a scheduled kind of girl,(hehe-like mommy) that this curve is really throwing us all off!! SO, aside from all the other factors of why this may be happening, again-I'm just curious>WHen do most kids go from 2 to 1 nap? Is it too early for Carly??

It was a long process with Jackson over a 5 month period, but he finally started taking 1 nap at about 17 months. But from about his first birthday we were trying out one nap on and off (his 2 nap were the same as carly's, they took him forever to fall asleep and he never slept very long). I asked my doctor about it and he said "if you ask me the perfect age for 1 nap, it would be 15 months, but of course every kid is different, some are ready earlier and some are ready later" And even after I got rid of his nap, he still had "quiet time" where he would play in his crib with toys or books, because he had a hard time adjusting to less sleep. Hope this helps! Don't feel like you have to do it overnight, because its hard to make it all the to the afternoon (for both of you!) Good luck!

I have always heard around age 1 but I was hoping that since my kids were early, they would take a little longer. This is how I knew...my kids never take more than 20 minutes to fall asleep, never. They are like Carly and are on a super good schedule that has made my life bearable. The other day I put them down and 30 minutes later Brady was screaming his guts out. I was scared he was going to wake up Easton (cause I thought he was asleep) so I went in there and Brady was crying and Easton was standing up in his crib laughing. I took them out and decided now I was not letting them take a nap because I was scared it would push their other nap later therefore pushing bedtime to later. They were super good the whole morning until their nap. Then they slept just over 3 hours and went to bed at the normal time. We have been doing it all week and it seems to work for them (and me) We will see if this keeps up. If they are acting super tired or grumpy in the morning I might try to go back to 2 but for now, this is working for us.

My kids are on a pretty strict sleeping schedule. I stopped giving Lily two naps at about 15 months. We have been transitioning Stella for awhile now. It took her longer to adjust to it. So, she was about 17 months. It is a sad day when they go from 2 naps down to 1, but it does free up your schedule a little.

I don't think there is a right age where kids go from 2 naps to 1 I think every kid is different and you just have to go with what seems to fit your child.

I think Skylar stopped taking 2naps around 15 months if not sooner (I can't remember exactly). I knew it was time when she wouldn't fall asleep for her morning nap so we just moved up her other nap to a little earlier and we were down to 1 nap a day.

Also, I should have said this in my first post, but in response to your question about Christmas cards, feel free to email me anytime. You can pick out a design you like (or give me an idea of what you are looking for if you want a custom design) and send me a few pics an I can work on it for you. Talk to you soon!

If it is hereditary, you are in trouble as all my kids stopped taking two naps by a year except for the cat naps they got in the car. I actually think you might like it because it would free up your life and give you more down time in one big block if she takes a 3 hour nap!!! Good luck!

Ava was about 13-14 months. And it was LONG TIRING PRocess. First it's hard to say goodbye to those two naps, and then you deal with tired lovely monster for a while! GOOD luck!

Hey Kate!!!

Just wanted to say hi...thanks for all of your nice posts, it's always very good to hear from you.
Good luck with Carly's naps...I really think every kid is different. I'd say give her some more time for the two naps...sometimes they just have a little phase when they protest.
However, if you decide that you've given her enough time to adjust and it's just not working....she's probably ready. Oliver kept two naps until he was 19 months...but every kid is different, and Carly just may be ready for ONE!!!!
good luck!

I think our babies are in sync (SP?) But seriously! Lilly has been taking one nap for a while now. I think around 14 months or so but for some reason right now she is a sleeping monster as well! I have to put her in her crib in the mornings. She doesn't go to sleep but just needs the down time or something. And then her afternoon nap comes and she doesn't relly sleep and then she is CRAZY tired by 5 which is too early to put her to bed. For her I think teething has something to do with it so maybe for Carly as well?
